It is a RoboAcad
requirement that all college
interns must receive a stipend
of at least $3,000 to offset the
cost of travel and summer living
expenses. However, the NASA
Ames/Silicon Valley area of
California is a high-cost area.
Depending on your travel
expenses, we recommend asking
for at least $4,000 in support
to pay for the 10-week living
costs. No student will be
allowed to "work for free."
RoboAcad will not consider
funding from relatives or
friends as a fulfilling the
stipend requirement. This is
done to level the playing field,
making sure economic status does
not influence the RoboAcad
selection process.
The recommended funding mechanism for this NASA
program is one the Space Grant Consortiums or
Foundations.
A complete listing can be found
here.
If your local Space Grant cannot
provide funding, you may substitute scholarship, grant,
or stipend funds from a corporate, non-profit agency, or
university organization, pending our approval.
Formal written proof of a
stipend/scholarship award
must be submitted to the
RoboAcad Staff before the
start of the Academy. All
acceptance letters addressed
to RoboAcad 2011 interns
will contain the language
that acceptance into our
program is contingent upon
providing proof of
appropriate funding.
