Frequently Asked Questions

What is the RCC?
The Robotics Curriculum Clearinghouse (RCC) is an online directory of robotics based curriculum targeted at all grade levels (including informal education).

What kind of curriculum will I find there?
All curricula on the RCC must be anchored in robotics. Regardless of the subject matter, the objective of all curricula on the RCC is to further interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics through robotics education . You will find both individual lesson plans as well as Curriculum Packages on the RCC.

How have these curricula been chosen?
Each curriculum on the RCC has been closely examined. Members of the RCC team work with the developer of each curriculum to ensure a minimum level of completeness before it is accepted. After this time it is reviewed for quality by an expert panel of scientists and educators. Once the curriculum has been reviewed it is then either placed on the RCC website or returned to the developer for improvement.

What will this cost me?
The Robotics Curriculum Clearinghouse is a repository for all robotics curricula, however preference is given to curricula that are free. After a user searches for curricula, the cost to use a certain curriculum is given along with other information on the search results page.

How do I search the RCC database of curricula?
The search process on the RCC website can be as general or as exacting as the user wants. Users must either fill in a keyword window or select an option from a pull-down menu for each search criteria they wish to use. After the user has filled out the search page as much as they want, the RCC database returns every curricula matching those criterion.

Does any of this connect to education standards?
Yes. Upon submission, the developers of each curriculum stated which educational standards they felt their curriclum most closesly addressed. If you are interested in finding curricula that pertain to certain national standards, you can search by them. If you are interested in curricula that adhere to state standards then select the state you are interested in from the pull-down menu.

What if I want more information on a curriculum than what is provided on the search results page?
Users can find more information on a certain curriculum by clicking on the links to the initial information page and the detailed information page. These two pages include all the data that RCC employees were able to find about a certain curriculum, with information ranging from material costs to teaching method.

How do I actually access the curriculum?
After receiving a list of search results, users can access each individual curriculum by clicking on it's respective link. NO CURRICULA ARE HOUSED ON THE RCC SITE. You do not have to download anything to view the curriculum, and any viewing that is done occurs outside the RCC website.

What is up with all these robotics competitions?
It is the goal of the RCC to encourage robotics education in every classroom throughout the country. The robotics competitions mentioned along with each curriculum are a very good way to excite your students about science and technology through hands-on learning and challenges. It is the hope of the RCC that teachers new to robotics will consider particpating in these competitions after they have implemented some of the curricula found on the RCC.
