2 Essay Questions

(Please check this page the week after the last lecture for the exam)

1. Write a two-three page, word-processed paper on a topic related to the subjects being studied. This assignment will not be returned. Save a copy for your own records in the event the original is lost. Below are some suggested topics.
  • What are current applications for robotics? Use topics discussed in lectures, or from outside sources. What are future applications for robotics?
  • What are the main components to a robot and what are some specific choices made by engineers to prepare them for extreme environments?
  • How do make a robot radiation-hardened? What are the main concerns and likelihoods of failure in radioactive settings for robots?
  • Create your own topic; Run it by Michelle at mgoldschmid@mail.arc.nasa.gov

2. In one-half or more pages, please let us know how you think we can improve our courses. Please include what topics you would like to see in the future NASA Robotics Online Courses. You may use as much space for this topic as you would like.

The heading on the paper must be formatted as follows:
First, Middle, Last Name, and email address

Street Address, Home Phone Number

City, State, ZIP Code,

Name of Course: NASA Robotics for Research and Education

Date, and Instuctor: James Beck

Begin your paper by signing your name after typing the following statement:
I, (print your name), certify that this Robotics Assignment is my own work

The body of the paper should be typed using 12-point Arial font, 1 inch margins on all sides, and double spacing, except for the single-spaced heading, and must be no longer than two pages (topic 1).
The essay and the exam must be completed and mailed to Professor James Beck. The assignments must be postmarked by July 23, 2004.
