Robotic Cooking


Ingredients (Serves 1)
Makes a basic rover structure, gears, and arm. Teachers may want to provide extra materials for students to continue work on rovers for rover contest!


Recipe: Standard Rocker-Bogey body and two components

  • computer connected to the internet with Windows Media or Real Media downloaded onto it
  • 1 empty Baby Wipes© box (8 inch x 5 inch outer dimensions)
  • 8 standard tongue depressors
  • 8 regular plastic bottle caps (ours came from water bottles)
  • 2 larger sized plastic bottle caps (can also be from water, just need a little bigger diameter)
  • 1 clothespin
  • 1 Bic© pen cap
  • 1 medium sized binder clip
  • 1 medium rubber band
  • 6 medium or large thumbtacks (short flat round top)
  • 29 pushpins (large plastic backing)
  • 1 wooden pencil
  • LOTS of masking tape
  • scissors (teacher's scissor work best, will be used for cutting wood)
  • ruler
  • any other materials you would like to use to individualize your rover for the contest (paint, extra daily classroom materials, etc.) Use your imagination!

Bonus Recipe: Component-Grabbing arm
  • 3 standard tongue depressors
  • 2 thumbtacks
  • 2 pushpins
  • 1 eraser cut from a standard wooden pencil
