Two one-hour shows!!
11am and 1pm (Pacific)

Get simple household items and make your own robot model! Check out our "Ingredients" List and get ready to build!!
Add more stuff to your rover and enter it into our Cooking Contest!
See "Cool Links/Tutorials" for additional info on the MER rovers, torque, gears, and robot building activities.

Educators: This online interactive NASA Robotics Education Project event for kids provides educators with creative ways to address some educational standards for grades 5-8. Easy and free, this online course will walk students through the step-by-step creation of a basic robot. During the 45-minute robot construction session, the hosts will address basic principles of physics (mass, force, heat flow, etc.) and the approach to understanding and implementing technical design. The remaining 15 minutes will be used to field questions through the chat room.

Involve your students in current NASA projects while teaching National Education Standards - without leaving your computer chair! The goal is to introduce students to real-time applications of their in-class work in the hope that they'll be inspired to consider science and engineering as career possibilities. This event will be live, and students may ask questions through an online chatroom. See the archives!

Why participate? Robot Cooking will:

  • Address specified National and California Educational Standards
  • Use current NASA projects to illustrate basic physics and engineering concepts (including gears, motors, structure and design, transfer of energy)
  • Provide educators with a convenient e-learning environment
  • Explain how to make a basic robot using everyday household items
  • Walk students through the completion of the basic robot structure - Students learn by doing.
  • Utilize a chatroom to enable a live question-answer session
  • Have a "Hotbot" hotline to take your live questions over-air
