Abstract Course Description:

Explore the geological wonders of the Rio Tinto, The Red Tinted River, of Southern Spain and learn how scientists consider it to be a Mars Analog. View eight live lectures by scientists in the field involved in the Mars Ground Truth Drilling Team and uncover the challenges and techniques of discovering subsurface life within this system and characteristics of the area of the Rio Tinto, the Iberian Pyrite Belt. A bonus lecture will be posted on the course website to discuss NASA communication technology used to connect this remote site to the United States and Spain.


Course will require the successful completion of a final exam and one written paper on a topic relating to the Rio Tinto.
