of the presentation.
How do I register for this course?
Registration for this course is open through NASA Ames Robotics Alliance
Online Program. Please follow the link on the homepage menu of this
site, http://robotics.nasa.gov/courses/fall05/ in order to register.
You will need to completely fill out the registration form, for both
audit and credit privileges. All students wishing to receive credit
need to submit information on the Registration page of National Hispanic
University. Current students may take this class free of charge. Visiting
students will be charged a registration fee. 20 student limit for credit.
How much will this course cost?
The cost to students to audit the course is free (You will not receive
academic credit). Current NHU students may take this course free of
charge, and visiting students will be charged a small registration fee
(more details to come.) This course is subsidized by NASA Ames Education
Division.
How much credit will I receive?
Registered credit students will receive 1 unit of academic University
credit. Visiting students to NHU should contact their academic institution
to determine their eligibility to transfer this credit.
What work do I have to do?
Enrolled students must participate in each Tuesday/Thursday lecture
and lab.. The culmination will include an online exam at the end of
the course that draws from each lecture. Students will be required to
write a 1-2 page essay on a topic of robotics. For example, what future
steps should be taken by the MARTE team? Was their project successful?
Can I still participate if I don't want to take
the class?
Students, teachers, mentors, and parents who are interested are encouraged
to audit the course, free of charge. They will see and hear everything
exactly the same, however they will not participate in the exam or submit
an essay, thus declining the credit option.
What's the minimum I need to do before the 25th
of October?
If you are auditing the course, all you really need to do before you
sit down to view the live webcast is make sure you have RealMedia or
WindowsMedia software downloaded onto your computer. You can find a
link to download these on the Webcast Info link on the menu. Please
also note our recommendations to ensure the best viewing possible of
the lectures. If you are taking the course for credit, you must complete
an application to receive credit.
How exactly does this work when I sit down for
the webcast?
At the time of each live lecture, please access the Robotics Alliance
Project home page at http://robotics.nasa.gov/courses/fall05/. There
will be a link at the top to the lecture of the day that will direct
you to the entrance page for the current lecture. Here you will choose
to watch with Real Media or Windows Media player. Press continue to
enter the screen from which you will watch the lecture. Before it begins,
we suggest you Connect to the chat room area (make up any user name)
in order to ask the lecturer questions. We will receive questions at
any time throughout the lecture, and they will likely be answered at
the end of the 45 minute presentation period. You may need to press
the play button on the media player and transcript in order to initiate
these features. Contact Seth
Carter or submit a question to the chatroom if you have technical
difficulties.
