Building on its rich ten-year history of supporting
students in national robotics competitive activities and offering
a variety of educational opportunities, the NASA Robotics Education
Project is now launching the GIRL Project (Girls in Robotics
Learning) -- a new effort to increase nationwide participation
of female students in robotics learning and competition through
a process of cultural promotion and attraction.
NASA REP-GIRL will capture and promote
best practices for getting and keeping girls involved in robotics
learning and competition via the NASA GIRL website at http://robotics.nasa.gov/GIRL
Develop and widely disseminate compelling
human interest accounts of female scientists and engineers
and student success stories to build healthier cultural images
and promote female role models -- Focusing on the field of
robotics
Offer targeted educational and outreach
efforts, including on-line interactive robotics education,
information and training. Our first effort is to sponsor a
WebChat with students around the country following
the Women Working on Mars Webcast on Feb 24, 2005.
Build a corps of female role models to
serve as mentors in robotics learning
